Sara yawned as she shut her locker door. Rolling
her head to release the tension in her neck and shoulders, she tried to make a
decision between going straight home now and running her errands before coming
into work or getting them out of the way and going home with nothing to do but
relax before work.
As another yawn hit she decided on going home and
trying to get some sleep when she remembered she was out of breakfast cereal.
With a sigh of annoyance, she made her way out of the building signing out
automatically before making her way to her car.
Stopping of at her regular supermarket, Sara was
able to get everything but her favourite breakfast cereal. Not being one to
accept a compromise on anything Sara decided to try another store on her way to
picking up the dry cleaning. Again they were out.
Lucky I’m not the paranoid type Sara thought to
herself as she found the third store was also out. Never being one to give up
easily Sara decided to try one more store before giving up and going home to
make-do with toast. The fourth store was slightly out of the way but had served
her well in the past when she was unable to find what she was looking for. It
was in a more exclusive part of town and tended to be better stocked than the
bigger busier shops in the larger residential areas.
The fact that it was not far from Grissom’s didn’t
escape her attention and in fact she had first frequented in on leaving his
place after visiting when he was on suspension during the Strip Strangler case.
It was weird being in his house…there was an absence of warmth to his place
like it was unused to visitors. She had felt like an intruder the whole time
she was there and unlike with Warrick and Nick had never felt the compulsion to
just drop around for beer and pizza on a lazy day off. But then beer and pizza
consumed in front of a football game weren’t exactly what she was looking for
from Grissom.
With a sigh Sara pulled into a parking space and
exiting her car made her way into the small grocery store. It was an old
fashioned store with none of the bright fluorescent lights of the larger chains
and there was something about the displays of groceries that made her wistful
for a more domestic mindset where she would cook meals and read recipes rather than
take out menus.
Moving directly to the cereal aisle Sara perused
the shelves expectantly until her eyes rested on one of the only empty spaces,
where her choice should have been. Refusing to believe they were out Sara paced
up and down in front of the selections on offer as if her desire for it to be
there would make it magically appear in front of her
eyes.
So absorbed was she in her disbelief Sara failed to
realise she was blocking another customer from reaching the product they
wanted.
“Excuse me,” a male voice requested. “You’re in my
way”
Cranky that they were able to obtain what they
wanted, Sara ungraciously moved herself to one side and turned to glare her
displeasure at the satisfied customer.
Her look quickly turning to shock as she realised
whom it was standing next to her.
“Sara” Grissom stuttered, taken aback by her
unexpected appearance in his local store. “What are…um…isn’t this out of your
way?”
Suddenly embarrassed by her overzealous behaviour
about getting the right kind of breakfast cereal Sara felt her face grow hot
and she stared at her feet as she struggled to explain her presence without
sounding like a person obsessed.
“I was kind of passing by and there were a few
things I needed so I thought I’d pick them up while I was out.”
“Passing by? Sara you live miles from here.”
“Well they were out at my regular shop and the one
near the dry cleaners and then the other place and by that time I was close to
here so I thought I’d you know have one last go”. Sara let out in a rush avoiding
the intense gaze Grissom was giving her.
“One last go at what
Sara?” Grissom asked with obvious puzzlement in his voice.
“Breakfast cereal” Sara mumbled.
“Sara I can’t understand you. Stop mumbling please”
Sara raised her head and repeated her reason for
being here to Grissom. How they were out of her favourite breakfast cereal and
not having it would disrupt her morning routine so she had tried a few other
places and somehow ended up right here still empty handed.
As she finished her explanation she finally brought
her eyes to Grissom’s to find them twinkling with humour.
“Don’t you laugh at me Gil Grissom” Sara warned
with and edge of laughter in her voice.
“I’m not laughing it’s just. Here you’ve spent a
good part of your day off trying to find an elusive box of your favourite
breakfast cereal when I have said product sitting at home in my cupboard. To be
honest I’m not that keen on it.”
The irony of the situation struck them both and
their laughter burst forth loudly in the nearly deserted supermarket.
After several suspicious glances from customers and
staff alike Grissom and Sara managed to gather themselves and with wide smiles
stood staring at each other. Each waiting for the other to
make the first move.
“So I...um…I guess I’ll go home and have toast.”
Sara spoke breaking the silence.
“Well…” Grissom paused as he made eye contact with
Sara “you could always come back to my place and have breakfast with me. I mean
I have what you want.”
Sara started at his comment and both quickly looked
away as the double meaning of what he had said occurred to them.
“I meant…uh… the cereal. You like it and I uh I
have it and it’s only going to get thrown out.” Grissom stammered as he tried
to cover his gaffe. The fact that he had often thought about having Sara in a
less than professional manner made his slip even harder to cover.
Sara couldn’t believe the effect Grissom’s innocent
slip had had on her. Her heart jumped and she could feel a blush creeping up on
her face. Desperately trying to control her reaction she slowly turned to face
him.
Guarded blue eyes met questioning brown ones and
then the awkward silence shifted and through the silent communication of old
each conveyed to the other feelings that had long been hidden. They stood in
silence and revelled for a moment in the pure feeling of clarity surrounding
them of knowledge and understanding in the absence of sound.
And with a slight nod of her head Sara agreed to
breakfast with Grissom and he with the smallest of smiles acknowledged her
acceptance, Sara’s face breaking into a gap showing grin at the twinkle in blue
eyes.
Sara sat in her car waiting for Grissom, who had
been delayed in paying for his purchases, with an eerie sense of calm. She
knew, as she was sure that Grissom knew that this wasn’t about breakfast, it
was about taking a step forward. A step that even
thirty minutes ago she had been terrified to take. Her complete acceptance of
the situation she was heading into baffled her. Where was the fear the
trepidation the excitement? This was Grissom, the man of her dreams and she was
sitting in her car waiting for him to follow him to go to his place at his
invitation and she was as calm as if this was an everyday occurrence. Not that
she wanted to be a bundle of nerves fumbling over her words and actions…she was
so confused. She wondered what he was thinking, was he glad for the delay? Did
he regret asking her? The ability of that man to addle her senses regardless of
the situation was quite astounding.
Grissom stood impatiently in the queue through the
checkout silently cursing the time it was taking, ‘time we could be spending
together’, he thought. Looking up and out at the car park he saw Sara sitting
waiting for him in her car, a pensive look on her face. He wondered what she was
thinking, if she was having second thoughts. Was she nervous or excited? He was
roused from his musings by a voice and he sighed as he heard the cashier make a
price call into the bowels of the store. His frustration growing he began
mentally travelling the route back to his house and calculating where precisely
they could have…should have been at that moment. At about the time they would
have been walking toward his front door Grissom was finally served and, as he
made his way to his car, the relevance of his previous thought struck him.
Pausing in his mission toward his car he stood and ran the words through his
mind...’they’ and ‘we’. They felt right and with a smile on his face he took a
step forward and then another towards a ‘they’ and a ‘we’ with Sara.
Sara glanced up from her introspection to check on
Grissom’s progress through the store checkout. A smile broke out on her face as
she saw him exit the building and walk towards his car. A
feeling of giddy excitement replacing her earlier calm. And then he
stopped. The smile on her face slowly faded as she felt her heart begin to thud
in her chest and a feeling of despair grow in her stomach. ‘He is having second
thoughts’ was her immediate reaction to his pause…and then…he smiled and with a
more determined stride than before he moved quickly to his car. When he reached
the driver’s side door he looked over to her and with a smile indicated she
should follow him. With shaking hands and a still pounding heart Sara started
her engine and followed Grissom out of the car park to breakfast.
The drive to Grissom’s house was both too long and
too short for Sara. “Oh god, what am I doing?” Sara groaned out loud. She tried
to rationalise her decisions of that morning. Why pick that store, of all
stores? Was she hoping that maybe she would run into him, no she was as
surprised as him when the bumped into each other. It could have been a
subconscious decision, spurred on by her desire to see him outside of work. He
looked different she mused. Less stressed, tired but the worry lines were gone,
or were they concentration lines? She could never be sure with Grissom. Which
was why, she guessed, she was so nervous about going to his place for
breakfast. “Yes” she exclaimed, “it is only breakfast” Whom was she kidding?
She wanted a whole lot more than breakfast. “Oh god” she groaned as images of
her having much more than breakfast with Grissom danced through her mind. This
is not helping.
Realising just in time that Grissom had turned off
the road and into his driveway, Sara pulled into park just beyond it. Taking a
deep breath she exited the car and walked back to where Grissom was waiting for
her at the top of the driveway. His face unreadable in the half shadow of the
house, she continued until she stood beside him.
“After you” he gestured with his arm and followed
her up the path.
They reached the door and with Sara in front of him
he had no option but to reach around her to unlock it. Sara realising she would
be in Grissom’s way turned around to move forward, finding herself looking dead
into Grissom’s eyes as their bodies bumped into each other. Time froze as their
eyes locked onto each other. Sara could feel the heat from Grissom through her
thin top and felt her body begin to react to it. A flush of red went to her
face as she realised he might be able to feel her response to him.
Grissom had never been this close to Sara in this
position before and was amazed at the immediate effect her nearness had on him, and on her if her body’s reaction was anything to go
from. Seeing the redness creep into her face Grissom knew his assumption was
right. He also knew that if he didn’t break contact soon he wouldn’t be the
only one feeling the result of arousal.
Clearing his throat Grissom stepped slightly to the
side of Sara, breaking contact but not opening up too much difference. Reaching
around he unlocked the door and pushed it open. Taking
a step forward Sara moved backwards until they had crossed the threshold.
Grissom reached behind to close the door and looked up to see Sara had
retreated further into his house to stand near the breakfast bar.
“Breakfast then?”
Grissom questioned as he moved into the kitchen and began opening cupboards.
“Sure” Sara replied as she pulled out a stool and
sat at the bar looking into the kitchen. With a flourish a bowl and a box of
cereal appeared in front of her.
“Um…” Sara began and paused as Grissom dug around
in one of his shopping bags and placed a carton of soymilk on the other side of
the bowl.
“I’ve seen you drinking this brand at work and
thought you might prefer it to cow’s”
“What, is there something
wrong?” he continued as she sat staring at him.
“No, I guess I’m a little surprised is all”
“I do notice things about you Sara,” he said
quietly as he turned to retrieve his own breakfast.
“Thank you I really appreciate the thought Grissom”
Sara said as she smiled at him.
Returning her smile Grissom came around and pulled
out the stool next to her. As he sat down Sara leaned into him, Grissom
returned the pressure and they sat shoulder to shoulder in a comfortable
silence as they ate.
With a groan Sara pushed her bowl away from her and
leant back on the stool.
“I warned you three bowls was too many”
“You did not”
“Yes I did, I definitely gave you the ‘three bowls
is too many’ look”
Sara burst out laughing at the mock serious look on
Grissom’s face.
“I’ll try to watch more closely next time then” she
hiccupped through her laughter. Then paused as the she realised how
presumptuous she sounded.
“I look forward to it” Grissom replied. Causing to Sara to again look at him in pleasant shock.
“So, you want some coffee?” Grissom gestured toward
the coffee machine in the counter.
“Sure why not? I’m sure I’ll have some room for it
by the time it’s made. Mind if I waddle to your couch, I need to slouch more
than this stool is allowing?”
“Make yourself at home”
Grissom spoke over his shoulder as he went to put on the coffee.
Sara made her way over to the couch and flopped
down onto it. Looking around his living room she realised that his home no
longer felt alien to her, she felt welcomed. Suddenly feeling exhausted she lay her head back and closed her eyes, giving a soft sigh
she slid further down into the softness of the lounge.
A movement beside her caused her to open her eyes
and she found herself staring into the mildly amused eyes of Grissom.
“Hey there sleepy head” he said softly as he
reached out to brush a strand of hair out of her eyes.
“How long have I been asleep?” Sara asked through a
yawn
“Not long, maybe 45 minutes”
“Wow, must have been more tired than I thought” she
said as she felt Grissom’s hand move to cup her cheek.
“You should sleep more,” he said softly.
“Mmmm” was all the response he got as Sara closed
her eyes and leant into his hand.
“You’re not going to fall asleep on me again are
you?”
“Uh uh” she mumbled as she turned her head to place
a kiss on the palm of Grissom’s hand.
Opening her eyes Sara lifted her head from
Grissom’s hand and replaced it with her own. Lacing her
fingers through his as he tightened his hold. They sat there, hands
joined on his couch for several minutes, each lost in their own thoughts.
“Um…Sara?”
Grissom broke the silence, only to be hushed by Sara placing a finger on his
lips.
Grissom kissed her finger as Sara moved closer to
him on the couch. With her heart thudding in her chest she leant forward to
place a kiss on his lips. She held her lips against his still ones for a few
seconds before slowly dropping her head and moving back. A finger under her
chin stopped her movement.
Slowly Grissom tilted her head up and leant forward
to place his kiss on her lips. Gently moving his lips over
hers. A sigh escaped Sara’s lips and she leant into Grissom, moving with
him in the kiss.
Gradually the intensity of the kiss increased as
lips gave way to exploring tongues and hands moved in caresses of their own.
Somehow Sara had manoeuvred, or been manoeuvred to sit on Grissom’s lap and it
was in this position that they finally broke apart, gasping for air.
“That was… unexpected” Sara breathed out as she lay her forehead to Grissom’s
“Good, or bad unexpected?”
Grissom asked just as breathlessly
“Good, definitely good” she murmured a she leant
forward for another kiss.
Grissom returned the kiss briefly before pulling
back slightly to look Sara in the eye.
“We should stop,” he stated simply.
“We should” Sara parroted, “but do you want to?”
“No”
“Then don’t” she said and pulled him closer for
another kiss, and another kiss, and another.
Time found them laying side by side on the couch
with Grissom kissing a path down Sara’s neck to the top of her shirt. He ran
his tongue under the material, licking the soft skin over her collarbone. Deft
fingers made quick work of buttons and soon he was able to lick a path to the
rise of her breasts. Shifting himself over slightly he
rolled Sara onto her back so he was leaning over her. His mouth returning to
her breast, moving over the cloth covered flesh. He sucked one hardened nipple
into his mouth, nipples that he had felt respond to him earlier. Reaching under
Sara he unclasped her bra and pushed it up to reveal her breasts. His breath
caught as he took in the beauty of her reverently tracing the soft flesh that
was moving with the rapid breaths of the woman beneath him. Lowering his head
again he took one then the other into his mouth. Sucking and teasing them with
his tongue.
Sara writhed on the couch unable to believe how
incredible Grissom’s mouth felt on her skin. She ran her fingers through his
curls then down over his back squeezing the strong muscles. Pulling his shirt
form his trousers she ran her hands over his bare skin. Skin that felt hot to
the touch. Hot because of her. The idea was amazingly arousing and she began to
feel a familiar tingle and then her body shook as she came.
Grissom paused as he felt her body tense, wondering
if he had done something wrong. It was then he realised that he had brought her
to orgasm. Amazed he raised his head form her breast to look at her. One look
at Sara’s flushed aroused face almost pushed him over the edge. He needed her,
needed to be in her. To feel all of her. Kneeling up
her took her hands in his and pulled her up off the lounge, wordlessly leading
her to his bedroom.
Hands ridding bodies of clothes, leaving them
scattered down the hall. Naked they moved onto the bed, mirroring the position
they had been in on the couch.
Sara wrapped her hands around Grissom’s neck and
pulled him down to kiss him as she lifted her knees to rest besides Grissom
hips.
“I need you,” she whispered into his lips.
With a groan Grissom moved between her parted legs
and slowly guided himself into her. She was hot and wet and ready for him. He
eased himself into her gasping as the sensation. He stopped when he was fully
in her. Leaning down for a kiss as his hand caressed her
breast.
Sara raised her hips, silently asking him to move
with her as she sucked his tongue into her mouth. With a muffled groan Grissom
began to gently thrust in and out of Sara. Trailing his hand from her breast
down her side he ran it down her long leg and lifted it up onto his back. Sara
brought the other leg up to join it, wrapping them both around him, pulling him
in closer to her.
Grissom’s hand followed the path back up to her
breast as he quickened his thrusts.
Squeezing her breast he broke the kiss and nuzzled
his face into Sara’s neck, sucking and nibbling the skin there. Sara raked her
fingers down Grissom’s back and sides, tightening her legs around him, pulling
him closer. Moving under him, meeting his thrusts with her
own.
“Oh god Grissom” she cried as she came around him.
Her body shaking as Grissom continued to thrust into her.
“Sara, oh Sara” Grissom intoned as he thrust once
then twice more into her, stiffening as he orgasm rushed through him, emptying
himself deep inside her.
Gasping he collapsed on top of Sara. Moving to roll
off Sara stopped him, holding him close to her.
“Stay, just for a bit” she panted, running her
fingers over his sweat slick back.
“Mmmm” Grissom mumbled into her neck as he fought
to gain control of his breathing.
Finally rolling off Sara he groaned as his limp
member slid from her. Sara moaning as she felt his warmth leave her.
Turning onto his side he pulled Sara to him, face
to face. Pushing damp hair from her face.
“Will you stay?” he asked.
“Yes” Sara replied with a smile, “After all you
have what I want”
Grissom chuckled and pulled her close to him as
they both drifted off into a peaceful slumber.
